Photography is about stopping time. We all seem to have somewhere to go and hardly enough time to get there. Every once in a while, something stops us in our tracks and reminds us what is truly worth preserving. Our goal has always been to understand your vision and turn it into lasting images—moments you can hold onto and return to years later.
Marcus became interested in photography at a young age and spent countless hours printing in the darkroom, learning the craft of light, chemistry, and composition from the ground up. He was an early adopter of digital photography and has remained deeply involved in its evolution, becoming highly skilled in Photoshop and other graphic arts programs used for retouching, restoration, design, and high-end printing.
We’ve spent more than 30 years behind the camera in Annapolis, refining the craft of lighting, composition, and working with people. What began as an apprenticeship as an assistant and lighting director grew into leading studio operations and, eventually, opening my own business. Since the late 1990s I’ve operated The Annapolis Photographer (and earlier Photos by Marcus), building a full-service studio in Annapolis’ Arts District at 47 Spa Road.
The studio is equipped for on-site printing, full portriat setup and we maintain a mobile studio that allows us to bring professional portrait and event setups to your location when needed. For larger events and projects, we work with a trusted network of leading photographers, videographers, and graphic artists throughout the DMV. This collaboration lets us scale seamlessly while maintaining the same high standards and personal approach.
Marcus has maintained multi-year relationships with clients across the financial, medical, legal, and military sectors, and are proud partners with NABSD and the U.S. Naval Academy. Over the years we’ve photographed hundreds of weddings, corporate events, advertisements, family and business portraits, Naval Academy ceremonies, sporting events, and high-profile gatherings for organizations including the NFL, PGA, USGA, USNA, multiple Maryland gubernatorial inaugurations, the Blue Angels, events at the White House and Capitol Hill, and various political and charitable groups—including Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish, Bosom Buddies, Club 164, and Shop with a Cop. You’ll also regularly find us on the edge of Annapolis high school wrestling matches and along the sidelines of local football and lacrosse games, covering the athletes and moments that matter in our own community.
A proud member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Marcus has served on the Parish Council for more than 20 years. Clients trust us with both the large, historic events that define Annapolis and the quieter, personal moments that matter most to families. As a longtime member of Nikon Professional Services, we bring a calm, professional approach to every shoot. Our focus is on making people comfortable, capturing authentic candids as well as carefully composed portraits, and delivering high-quality work on time. The studio also offers headshots, restorations, enlargements, printing, graphic design, and other services so clients can handle everything in one place.
Whether you need wedding coverage, event photography, professional portraits, or commercial work, we’re here to help you preserve the moments that matter.
